A well respected Wikipedian passes away...

When I logged on to check my email and onwiki messages a few hours ago, it struck me when I began to see 'Wikipedian passes away' across many blogs and onwiki itself.

[[User:Jeffpw]] gave over 9,000 edits to the English Wikipedia, and it was quite amazing to see the amount of support given to his family and close friends at the special memorial page created at [[User talk:Jeffpw/Memoriam]].

My thoughts are with Jeff's friends and family during this time of sad loss. He will be missed across the project and it was great to have him contribute to our aim of an encyclopedia containing the sum of all human knowledge.

The travel continues...

It's been almost a month since I posted my last blog here, it only feels like a few weeks have passed...

I have since completed my exams for the semester and currently enjoying holidays from home, I didn't plan to go out anywhere but we'll see what happens :)

The Brisbane Wikimeetup is planned for Saturday 12th July, currently we expect around four of us to attend. If you're in the area and active on a WMF project, don't forget to sign up on the wiki-page.

Until next time, this has been the musings of James.

Brisbane WikiMeetup

The Brisbane team of Wikimedians have decided that we should have another WikiMeetup sometime in the next school holidays (early-mid July). We have decided on four prospective dates - 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th of July.

Alex (User:Giggy) spammed the categories this morning with Giggabot and hopefully we can decide on a location and date/time sometime soon. I suggested The Coffee Club at Toowong, been there once and enjoyed their service.

We have created the meetup page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Meetup/Brisbane/2. If you are from Brisbane or surrounds, active on a Wikimedia project and would like to join us, please sign up today!

I look forward to meeting more local Wikimedians :)

The new blog onto the spot...

Well, what can I say?

I thought to myself this evening that it might be in my interest to create a blog to write about the events that happen as I stumble across them on-wiki.

I hope this enables me to 'open up' a bit more... I might start posting sometime this weekend, work and schooling is quite busy during the weekdays.

Thanks and enjoy :)
